OCI provided us with a comprehensive suite of managed open source services and also offered a clear roadmap and extensive support. The standout factor was OCI's cost-efficiency, being less than half the cost. But our collaboration with OCI demonstrates a partnership that extends beyond technology, highlighting their support and commitment to our project's goals.

Business challenges

Launched some 30 years ago and originally known as HighJump Software, Körber’s supply-chain automation applications specialize in solutions such as warehouse management systems, third-party logistics software, and direct store delivery.

When transitioning to offer its applications as SaaS from on-premises, the company was looking for cloud infrastructure that would be flexible and secure with open source services, while also providing the tools to run more effectively and efficiently. With its platform powered by Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), Körber helps its customers respond to demand for more product availability, faster delivery speed, and 24/7 customer service.

Why Körber Supply Chain Chose Oracle

While developing the next generation Körber Supply Chain Software, the company chose OCI as a reliable, scalable, and cost-effective solution for its database and infrastructure needs that was specifically focused on PostgreSQL for transactional database persistence.  Oracle Cloud global data centers provide the flexibility and scalability required by Körber customers worldwide. Oracle also helped Körber quickly get to market with a global sales footprint and joint go-to-market activities.

Results

Körber migrated and consolidated four warehouse management systems onto OCI for better performance and management control. OCI’s suite of managed open source services, such as Container Engine for Kubernetes, Database with PostgreSQL, and Cache cost less than 50% of Körber’s on-premises environment. Implementation was four times faster, with provisioning reduced from 6 to 8 weeks, down to 2 to 10 days.

These combined benefits help Körber’s customers, particularly retailers that need to scale up and down for seasonality business changes, lower costs and achieve uptime goals.
